We do hope you are going to join us for our major fundraising event of the year - our Readers' Quiz Night - lots of fun and fellowship and prizes to be won!  Perhaps you have already bought your tickets, but if not, they can be bought from any of the three libraries or by contacting Keith Carley, (details below).  We would love to make this evening a success and the only way to do that is to get everyone involved!  Please talk to your friends and family and convince them to come along and have some fun.  Anthony Dreaver will be our quiz master, wine and supper will be served, and there are some great raffles and prizes to be won!

Formed in 1979, Friends of the Kāpiti Coast District Libraries Inc. is one of the longest lasting and most active public library friends’ groups in New Zealand.

Our aims are to maintain free library services, organise entertaining book events, support the three Kapiti Libraries – Paraparaumu, Waikanae and Ōtaki –as requested by the District Librarian, and make representations to the Kāpiti Coast District Council on library matters.

We’re a non-profit organisation able to raise funds from a variety of sources, including sponsorship. In recent years we have donated over $40,000 to the libraries. This money has been used to buy popular books, large print books, art works reference books, CDs, cassettes, videos, DVDs and library furniture. The
Historic Photo Collection and the increasingly popular Summer Reading Programme for children have also benefited from grants made by us. The Friends oppose annual subscription and fees for borrowers but recognise there may be a need to charge for some services.

We support district rates being used as the principal form of library funding but as there are now 20,000 active district-wide borrowers, there is a need for

voluntary public donations of time and money to ensure the libraries provide the services the community needs. You can help by becoming a Friend. You could also pass a copy of this brochure to one of your friends!

Member’s benefits include:

  • invitations to events featuring local and national authors, stimulating speakers and book launches for local writers,
  • our annual dinner and drinks.
