What you can request
Charges Renewals
If an item or topic you want is not held at Paraparaumu, Waikanae or Otaki Libraries you may request an interloan (formally called inter-library loan) from another library in New Zealand or Australia.
You need to be a registered customer of Kapiti Coast District Libraries.
You may look for the item on Te Puna, the National Bibliographic Database yourself, or ask a librarian at any branch to search for you. The more details you know about an item, eg. title, author, publisher, date of publication; the easier it will be to find.
You can request an Interloan item by:
- Filling out the details of the item on an Interloan Request Card at any library
- phone the Paraparaumu Information Desk 04 2964887
- or request your interloan now.
Your request is sent electronically. If you decide you no longer want the item, phone Paraparaumu Information Desk immediately. Your request may be able to be cancelled, if not, the charges will still apply.
You may request books, micro film, theses, music scores, photocopies of journal articles, CDs, videos, DVDs. Very popular new material may not be immediately available and not all libraries loan audio-visual items.
$5 to $8 for books, depending on the charges of the lending library. Additional charges may apply for audio-visual material and Australian interloans. The cost is payable whether or not you collect the item requested.
The arrival time of your request will depend on its availability, usually between one and six weeks.
Library staff will phone you as soon as it is ready. Your loan time will usually be 3 weeks, but the lending library may specify a shorter time and/or other special conditions, e.g. recall at any time or use within a library only. Some items may be able to be renewed for a further 2 weeks.
You may request a renewal while at the library or by phone. Your interloan will be renewed on your library record then the Interloans Librarian will request a renewal with the lending library. You will be contacted if the renewal is declined.
