New children's library cards

Did you know we have a newly designed junior library card!

Waikanae artist Amanda Smart used bright, vibrant colours to create a funky image with a beach theme. The new cards come with the option of a blue, black, red or green lanyard.

Children can update their present card for the new design, at the usual cost of $3.00.

Local boys Jakob and Daniel check out books using their new library cards.

Your Reviews

We would like reviews of books you have read - written by kids - for kids. So tell us about a book you have been reading that you think others might enjoy.

Carol recommends: Brainjack by Brian Falkner

Wow, what a thrill ride. I couldn’t put this book down. (16 year old Sam is a computer hacker, and he’s good at it.) This book is set in the not too distant future. Like his other book “The tomorrow code”, I couldn’t stop till it was finished.

Isobel recommends: Life on the refrigerator door by Alice Kuipers

It was really quick to read. It wasn't in chapters but in notes told back and forward between the girl and her mum. This kept the story going and showed the different emotions between the mother and daughter. Make sure you have plenty of tissues. You will cry at the end.

Jane recommends: The hunger games by Suzanne Collins

This book was so action packed that I couldn’t put down, imagine living in the future where every year 24 boys and girls – two from each district are put into a controlled environment to fight to the death…follow Katniss  on her journey of survival. This book is not as gruesome as it sounds and is a must read!!

Kailey recommends: Piano Rock by Gavin Bishop

I recommend this book because it is very interesting and it is cool to know what it was like growing up in the 1950s.

Carol recommends: Necropolis by Anthony Horowitz

This is the fourth book in the power of five/gatekeeper quintet. Again, a gripping story where we finally meet the fifth gatekeeper, Scarlet. It was another non-stop read by the author of the Alex Rider books. I had to keep stopping though, because I didn’t want it to end, and the fifth one hasn’t been written yet.

Kaye Recommends: I am the Messanger by Markus Zusak

Teens and adults will find this an enthralling read. Playing cards and addresses arrive mysteriously in the mail and send Ed on life changing missions for himself and others.
