The Real Art Road Show in Mahara Gallery May 2007
Mahara Gallery is Kapiti Coast's District Gallery, and presents a vigorous and regularly changing programme of curated and touring exhibitions throughout the year, covering a range of artforms and cultural contexts. These include contemporary Maori arts, painting, photography, textile arts, jewellery, contemporary glass, video and sculpture. Mahara Gallery showcases Kapiti artists and also leading artists on the national scene.
The Gallery also runs an active programme of events including artists' and curators' floortalks, artists' demonstrations, live music, special film screenings and exhibitions openings.

Mahara Gallery opened in February 1995 and became a Charitable Trust the following year, when Council formally recognised it as the Kapiti Coast District Gallery and it moved to its current site in Mahara Place. Since 1996 the Council has provided annual grants to assist the Gallery. In December 2006 the latest Partnership Agreement between Mahara Gallery and the Council was approved, running until 2009.
Mahara Gallery also has a small range of quality artworks, jewellery, quality cards and art books for sale.
