Person of the year

Staff at Waikanae wrote this poem about library manager, Gordon Cameron, winning him Kāpiti Coast District Council's person of the year award at their Christmas function.

The Person of the Year is HERE, managing our library
So  many changes we have seen, since he took charge in February!
All walls are painted red or green and everything looks better
He’s moved the shelving all around and each shelf has its letter.
Every thing is brighter now, including all staff faces
Our Gordon treats us kindly as he puts us through our   paces.
The Maori Area’s now upstairs and looking more attractive.
The children have a bright new room where they can be quite active.
Staff output it has doubled ‘cos we’re never ever troubled:
If shelving’s overwhelming or the book bins are a burden
Panic not; keep working - and ring the bell for Gordon!
No matter what the crisis, he’s there with face a-beam
No wonder that we love him; he’s made such a happy team.
We won’t give more biography – ‘twould be a hagiography!
We all support this ode and so ‘twill come as no surprise
To hear our Gordon merited our Council’s biggest prize:
PERSON OF THE YEAR, he’ll be. We’ll all be very proud
As we hear,   “Hurray for Gordon!” coming from the crowd.

He Kākano Art Space

He Kākano is the art space on the “Coast with Most”  and a great little space for artists to show-off their creations. Smaller than its sister gallery, the Roderick and Gillian Deane Art Space in Paraparaumu Library, He Kakano is small but perfectly formed!

Centrally located within Waikanae Library, the art space is a great edition to the Library environment. Visible from the moment you enter the Library, He Kakano is sure to please with its changing exhibitions showcasing our local artists.
