The pre-entry programme is designed for those who have been away from study for some time and who wish to enroll in the degree. Three years ago, Raumati Beach mother, Dianne Coleman, was working as a teacher aide at the Kapiti Centre of Learning. Despite suggestions from colleagues that she train as a teacher, she was not interested. However, when she visited The Learning Shop in Porirua with some students she noticed the Social Work programme. Dianne asked around and heard from other students that the Whitireia model of Social Work training had set times, ideal for families and was friendly, student-focused, and the staff are committed to getting you through. For someone returning to study after many years, while still raising her teenage children, this was just the encouragement she needed. Now, about to complete the three-year Bachelor of Social Work degree, Dianne says, I am naturally a competitive person, but I have been impressed by the support and the collaborative learning environment. This is important for a social worker. The programme has fed Diannes passion to work with youth and next year she plans to complete a teaching qualification. Isnt that funny? Coming from not wanting to be a teacher? For more information contact the Lindale campus (04 29 80205) or call in to the campus, State Highway North, Paraparaumu. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 7) IDEA Services will be holding a Family Forum "IDEA Services will be holding a Family Forum on Saturday 14 November at 185 Main Road, Tawa.
